At times her team must think she really is from Hades, the way she unabashedly drives them physically, mentally and emotionally all season. It has paid off - this giant derby fan and her team of hardworking skaters swept the first ever WFTDA Division 2 Playoffs and will be heading to Championships in Milwaukee this fall.
Maiden Hades' passion for derby started years ago while working as a hairdresser in Seattle. Her client, who later took on the moniker Demanda Riot (Bay Area Derby Girls), decided that they should both try out for a local Fresh Meat group. They found some skates on Craigslist, and the rest, they say, is history. After spending some time with Jet City in Everett, Washington, Maiden Hades relocated to Santa Cruz where she landed a spot on the Boardwalk Bombshells, developing and proving her prowess in the pivot position. She helped develop the league's highly successful bi-yearly bootcamp program, successfully training the first few batches of skating newbies to be Fresh Meat.
Sidelined by a back injury for several months, Hades returned in 2012 in a coaching position, taking the Bombshells under her wing. Her no-nonsense attitude combined with her game-play knowledge and knack for cunning strategy made her perfect coach material, and it wasn't long before she started reshaping the Bombshells into what you see today: A lean, mean, fighting machine that reflects her own intensity and determination.
