As for December 3, 2019, the Santa Cruz Derby Girls organized a special event called 'Giving Thursday.' The one-day event was designed to encourage people to support the team in any possible way and help them gain up to $10.000 for keeping them skating and taking part in different competitions.
All visitors were welcome to donate any sum they saw proper. Thanks to the promotion through social media channels, the team succeeded in getting a full house! More than 240 people attended the meeting, and each person donated as much as he could afford.
Moreover, even some representatives and business owners visited the event. Most of them knew about the community's previous local philanthropies beforehand. Ashley Newman, the managing editor at QuickCashLoans, a small non-profit institution specializing in providing instant approval payday loans with bad credit, was interested in the league's activity and didn't even hesitate to join the meeting.
In order to support the Santa Cruz Derby Girls, Ashley Newman and all the QuickCashLoans team members donated more than $5.000 to the league's capital. The company considered that the community's volunteer activities and intentions should attract more attention from other people.
In its turn, the Santa Cruz Derby Girls appreciated and recognized such a gesture of goodwill and promised to emphasize the company when choosing the next 2020 Featured Non-Profit. The SCDG organizes small local “election” every year and chooses the most appropriate non-profit organization from all interested applicants.
