Roller Derby in Santa Cruz Just Got Better!

How is that possible? 

It couldn’t possibly get more popular, more fun or more inspiring, right? If you’ve been part of the sold-out crowds at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, or just driven past the line of ticket holders (or ticket hopefuls) snaking their way around the block on Saturdays throughout the season, then you can attest to that.  What could these girls on wheels be getting so excited about now?

Roller Derby in Santa Cruz has gone non-profit!

The girls who donate their time, energy, and blood-sweat-and-tears to bring derby to this city, have realized their longstanding goal of becoming a non-profit organization.  Our commitment to the Santa Cruz community just got a little more serious - we’re rolling up our sleeves and digging in!

The new status allows the league to take action on a number of projects that have been highly anticipated in the community – Jr. Derby foremost among them!

Along with this new status will come a new look and a new name.  But don’t worry – the skating names you’ve come to know and love (and if you’re smart, you fear them just a bit, too) are all still on the roster: Jammers Candie Hooligan and Sheila Princess of Power, blockers Lulu Lockjaw, Brawley Parton, and pivots Shamrock N. Roller and Roxy Scarmichael, and the up and coming skaters you’ve been keeping an eye on for the last year.  The announcers who explain the action are still on the stage: Lex van den Berghe and Timothy Jordan will remain on the mics to give you the play by play.  Our amazing referees and the production crew are all on the track. This exciting change will benefit our skaters, our sponsors, our visiting teams, other local and regional non-profits, as well as roller derby fans!

Look for a big event in early May to unveil the new name and logo!
