June is Roller Derby month in Santa Cruz!

The Santa Cruz Derby Girls are pleased as punch to inform you that June 27th is officially Santa Cruz Derby Girl Day in the City of Santa Cruz!
Mayor Cynthia Matthews will be honoring the derby girls with a Mayoral Proclamation and the "Skate Key to the City" before another anticipated sold-out crowd at the Civic Auditorium. The league is being recognized for a multitude of accomplishments, from economic stimulus and sports-womanship to racy fashion trends. See the pdf file attached! Join our girls as we skate against Washington State's Jet City Rollergirls on Saturday, June 27th.
To commemorate this first Santa Cruz Derby Girl Day, the first one hundred fans wearing striped socks will receive a free collectible button. Come watch history in the making!
A portion of the proceeds from this bout will be donated to our featured non-profits for the month of June, HOPE Services and SPIN. HOPE Services’ mission is to assist individuals with developmental disabilities to live and participate in their communities. HOPE Services provides programs and services to over 2,800 individuals with developmental disabilities on an annual basis in a six-county area that includes: Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Alameda. SPIN (Special Parents Information Network) is a non-profit parent-to-parent support and information network serving parents, guardians and families in Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties who have a child or children with special needs of any age.If you missed us at the Santa Cruz Pride Parade, don't fret! You'll have several more opportunities to get your fill of the derby girls.
• June 13th - the Silicon Valley Roller Girls host SCDG. Come root for your home team at San Jose Skate. Doors open at 6pm. Bout starts at 7pm. Tickets are $17 at the door or $15 in advance. Check out www.svrollergirls.com for more details
• June 20th Down and Derby with the Santa Cruz Derby Girls! SCDG is hosting a meet and greet event at the Santa Cruz Skate Shop. You'll have an opportunity to meet the Santa Cruz Derby Girls, get a poster signed by legendary artist Jimbo Philips, watch game footage and take a photo with your favorite derby girl. Join us on Saturday from 3-6 pm and come check out our hot new merchandise. Buy a raffle ticket! Join in the fun! 912 41st Avenue.
• June 27th Santa Cruz Derby Girls vs. Jet City Rollergirls. In addition the above mentioned celebration with the Mayor, we are welcoming a travel team from the state of Washington, and expect the highest level of play at this sure-to-sell out bout.
• Online! www.santacruzderbygirls.org - The Santa Cruz Derby Girls much-anticipated new website is live! Not only a source for all thing derby in Santa Cruz and beyond, there will also be links to skaters’ blogs, bios, events and more. An inter-active forum is also in the works.
