Santa Cruz Derby Girls - July 1, 2009
The Santa Cruz Derby Girls welcome the Derby Revolution of Bakersfield to their home track on Saturday July 11th. After the nail-biting conclusion of the battle against Washington’s Pink Pistols, SCDG’s Boardwalk Bombshells are eager to deliver a home win for their loyal Santa Cruz fans. Don’t miss out on another opportunity to see these brassy Bombshells in action!Watsonville’s own Carina Moreno will be our special guest whistle blower for this bout. Recently voted by the WBC “Female Fighter of the Year,” Carina Moreno is recognized as one of the best female fighters in the world. When asked what she likes best about boxing, Carina says "You’re out there, and you’re putting on a show for the people ... showing them the skills and letting them know females can also do boxing. I strongly believe that whatever a man can do a female can do as well." The Santa Cruz Derby girls are thrilled to have Carina as their honored guest!
The Walnut Avenue Women’s center will be the featured non-profit organization for July. The Women’s Center’s mission is to provide high quality support and services so that women, children, and families will have opportunities and skills to survive. Along with a portion of the proceeds from the bout, the Derby Girls will be collecting new school supplies for children and families in crisis. Please give generously!
Not enough derby for ya? The Derby Girls are actively recruiting new members to join the league. SCDG is hosting another open league tryout on July 19th! Join the Derby Girls on Sunday, July 19th at 10 am at the Scotts Valley Sports Complex. Come be a part of this amazing organization!

Santa Cruz. Advance-purchase, general admission tickets are priced at
$20.50 (all bouts have sold-out).
